Provides students with essential computer skills. Introduces students to Microsoft Windows and Office 2003 (Office 2003 requires Windows 2000, XP or later). Students learn about the Internet and how to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in their daily lives. Projects incorporate problem solving, creativity, math, English, and the technical skills needed to use an integrated software office package. These skills are the building blocks for academic and career success.
Builds on word processing and spreadsheet skills learned in the first semester. Further areas of instruction include advanced desktop publishing, constructing databases, designing Web pages, online searching, using presentation software, and other applications. Course uses either texts for "Microsoft Office XP" or "Microsoft Office 2000" (Business Education 21C uses only "Microsoft Office 2000"). Please specify which texts you prefer on your enrollment application.
31E - Business Communications (Technical/ Business Communication)
Areas of study include written, oral, and visual communication, listening, informational reading, Internet research and analysis, and electronic communications. Concepts include the writing process and adapting communication to the situation, purpose, and audience. Students write memos, business letters and reports, e-mails, resumes, and job applications, and create a portfolio using presentation, desktop publishing, or Web publishing software.
