Family and Consumer Sciences Education Courses

01F - Interpersonal Relationships

Correspondence
Gives students perspective in understanding themselves and others, and provides a basis for solving and understanding everyday problems common to young people and their parents. Discusses dating, courtship, marriage, and parenthood. Emphasizes personal development and family relationships.

11N - Nutrition and Wellness I

Correspondence
Study of nutrients and their importance. Provides information of personal and practical applicability to students' lives. Teaches not only the facts of nutrition, but also the enjoyment of discovering new ways to fill nutritional needs.

12N - Nutrition and Wellness II

Correspondence
A continuation of FACS 11N. Covers the Food Pyramid, food choices for health and wellness, safe storage and handling, cooking techniques, and foods around the world.

31C - Child Development (Child Development and Parenting)

Correspondence
Helps students think about the rewards and responsibilities of parenthood. Discusses family planning, pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care. Provides information about child development as it relates to parenting and discipline. Provides guidance in selecting substitute child care and discusses child care as a career.

41C - Consumer Economics

Online / Correspondence
Students learn practical skills of daily economic life, awareness of their own values, and economic decision making. Covers how to use a checking account, figure credit cost, rent an apartment, buy food and clothes wisely, buy a car, buy different kinds of insurance, and pay taxes. Includes a brief introduction to capitalism and consumer rights.

41H - Housing and Interior Design Foundations

Correspondence
Practical course that helps students solve housing problems. Topics include evaluating housing needs, finding suitable housing, designing floor plans, and furnishing a house. Includes the history of housing and design.
