DEPLOYED SERVICE MEMBERS POLICY
The School of Continuing Studies does not penalize service members deployed to a dangerous area or to an area in which it is not possible to continue submitting assignments.

Documentation
It is the service member’s responsibility to present the School of Continuing Studies with documentation of deployment. Documentation includes

  • a copy of the deployment order indicating the geographical location of the soon-to-be deployed service member.

OR

  • a memo from the service member’s unit command validating the service member’s deployment.

Extended-Term Courses
Service members registered for extended-term courses through the Independent Study Program receive free extensions for the length of their deployments. Extensions are granted upon satisfactory documentation described above.

Upon returning to study, service members may return to the portion of the course where study was stopped because of deployment, and they have one year to complete their course work.

If it is not possible for a service member to complete an extended-term course, a full refund is issued. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis and require documentation in the form of

  • a memo from the service member’s unit command validating that the service member is unable to complete course work even with extensions.

Semester-Long Courses
Service members registered for semester-long courses receive an incomplete (“I”) that remains valid until they are able to return and to complete their studies. Upon returning to study, these students have one year to complete their course.

Incompletes are granted upon satisfactory documentation described above. Refunds for semester-long courses offered through Continuing Studies from a specific campus depends on the policy of that campus.
